You probably know @aaronkfoley for his devastating social media presence, his extraordinary journalism, and his honor as Detroit’s first Chief Storyteller. We’re delighted to have him back in the city. News of this book is reaching well beyond Detroit, though: Boys Come First has been named one of the most anticipated of 2022 by The Millions, NetGalley, LGBTQ+ Reads, and Chicago Review of Books, who said, “Following three Black gay men as they seek love, friendship, and professional success in the Motor City, Boys Come First has such richly drawn characters and sense of place that you’ll forget you’re not reading about real people.”

Aaron Foley is the author of How to Live In Detroit Without Being a Jackass (Belt, 2015) as well as the editor of The Detroit Neighborhood Guidebook (Belt, 2017) He is the founding director of the Black Media Initiative at the Center for Community Media at the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. Previously, he was a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University, chief storyteller for the City of Detroit, and editor of BLAC Detroit Magazine. He is also an author and veteran freelance journalist, having contributed to This American Life, The Atlantic, Columbia Journalism Review and more. He currently lives in Brooklynn and serves as a senior digital editor at PBS NewsHour.

Foley will be joined by Detroit writers Amanda Lewan, Katelyn Rivas, and Scheherazade Washington Parrish. The event will be hosted by Anna Clark, author of The Poisoned City and editor of the Detroit Anthology, with our friends @27thletterbooks providing sales of Boys Come First and other @beltpub books.
